Do you work full time as a fitness model?

No, I work as a Scientific Manager for a large UK based organisation.

 

How long have you been training for?

I have been training since the age of 16 and so I am coming into my 10th year of training.

 

How often do you train?

My training will vary depending on season. On season, I aim to train twice a day 6-7 times a week (cardio/weights split). Off season I train 5 times a week minimum focusing mainly on weight training

How many meals do you eat per day?

Again this will vary depending on season. On season I will eat on average 7-8 meals a day. Off season I will consume between 6-7 meals per day.

 

What keeps you motivated to train?

I am a highly self motivated individual in all aspects of my life. My motivation comes from a desire to continually improve, with my main goal both on and off season, to improve strength.

 

What were your biggest mistakes as a beginner training and nutritionally?

Cardio! When I first started training I  focused mainly on aerobic exercise rather than weight training. As a small boy, I shied away from the weights floor for the first few months of my training life. I now focus mainly on weigthts and use cardio only to compliment my weight training.

 

Biggest mistakes you see others making when training?

Anyone who has trained with me know I am “particular” about my technique. Technique is key in developing functionally strong muscle and avoiding injury. The biggest mistakes I see in others technique is the form and the tempo… Drop the weight, get a good full range of motion, and a controlled eccentric contraction.

Do you still set yourself short term goals? If so, what are they?

Yes, as I am currently prepping for competition, my current goal is to lean up and loose 2.5-3kg to come in at 75kg for fitness model class.

 

What is your favourite exercise and why?

Close grip bench press – decline. It’s a highly functional exercise and forms the foundations of strength for many other chest and tricep exercises.

 

What is your proudest achievement?

In fitness – being cast and shot for Mens Health and subsequently joining Team iSupp!!

 

How do you overcome a plateau?

Mix up a workout. By constantly tweaking workouts, I avoid plateauing. Changing exercise order, tempo, weight and even exercises on a daily basis ensures small changes every workout.

What supplements do you use?

What do you like to do when you’re not training (hobbies)?

Training! I love eating healthy both on and off season so I can often be found enjoying a chicken or two in Nandos! Aside from eating, working and training, if I have any time to spare I like to relax watching a good movie!
